The Quarry

Overview:

The Quarry is the newest game from the developers of Until Dawn and the Dark Pictures Anthology series. Supermassive games are known for great character design and details as well as creating a story that is both gripping, terrifying and sometimes even supernatural. While the Dark Pictures Anthology games are generally more grounded, The Quarry takes more from their original game Until Dawn as the game goes toward the more supernatural route (no spoilers).

The Quarry is about 9 camp counselors trying to make the most of their last day together in Hackett’s Quarry summer camp. Little do they know that there is a reason that no one stays a day longer in camp. These 9 camp counselors are in for a night of terror and horrors as they must survive the night against the supernatural and hunters.

The player will be able to control all 9 characters and make decisions for each character as they try to keep them alive for the night. Some actions and choices have consequences that appear far later and play a greater role in the overall story than you may initially realize.

Honest Review

The Quarry is a great game to pick up and play alone or with a group of friends. While the story is good and follows the general makings of a horror story, the best part of the game is the gameplay and the decisions you must make throughout the story.

These decisions while insignificant at times can sometimes play a larger role later on in the story and remembering that one wrong choice or a mistimed QTE (quick time event) could get a character killed kept me on my toes throughout my entire playthrough. After saving everyone, and getting the “good” ending, I was ready for another playthrough, this time I was going to make the worst choices to see the outcomes for the characters, and that is the true strength of these types of games.

The replay ability of these games is amazing, and it’s cool to see how one choice can change the path of the entire game. While I did feel that the introduction – chapter 3 seemed to drag on too long, and the action truly begins in chapter 4, the game is amazing. Great graphics, a good story albeit with some classic clichés, this game is a must play for those looking to relax with a group of friends or just enjoy a classic horror experience.
