Baldur’s Gate 3

Overview:

Baldur’s Gate 3 is a role-playing adventure game based on the rules and world of Dungeons & Dragons. The game follows the rules established in the 5e tabletop game as well as integrated an amazing story and gameplay mechanic to ensure that even those not familiar with D&D and the respective lore are ready for an amazing adventure.

The story follows the player’s character and the many obstacles they face in their path to removing a parasite that could transform them into a monster. Along the way, the player will meet a wide variety of people who either help or hinder the progress of your campaign, but remember the decisions you make, whether big or small, will play an important part in defining who you are in the world of D&D.

Honest Review

Baldur’s Gate 3 is a trip to the past, where games were made to be enjoyed, replayed and enjoyed again. BG3 (Baldur’s Gate 3) not only does that but allows for every playthrough to be different based on the chosen character and the choices made throughout the story.

Without spoilers, it’s really cool how much thought and time Larian put into making BG3, a true ohmage to the original games as well as classic RPGs. No matter the choice, small or large – there is always an effect, it may not be immediate, or even be what you were expecting but it’s there and it’s awesome. The tiniest action could impact the story a few hours later and it might even change how the game ends.

The characters are the biggest accomplishment and are well deserving of the critical acclaim they have received. All characters are unique, well voiced acted and extremely customizable based on your interactions with them and the world of Baldur’s Gate 3. All interactions within the game are taken via a dice roll, this mechanic is very familiar to those who are accustomed to the tabletop RPG, but for those jumping into D&D for the first time, don’t worry, the basic mechanics and actions of the game are taught through tutorials.

My only complaints would be that the learning curve is quite steep and there is no voice acting for the player character. In terms of the learning curve, while there are many tutorials provided throughout gameplay, it wasn’t until my second playthrough that I truly had a solid grasp on the mechanics and actions that could be taken throughout the game. However once familiar with the mechanics and rules, the game instantly became more fun as I was able to experiment with different builds and weapons for my characters.
