Overview:

The Sega Genesis Mini is a retro gamers dream come true. Packed with 42 classics like: Alex the Kid, Shinobi, Street Fighter, Sonic the Hedgehog, and many more. This small 16-bit machine replicates and even enhances the games made for the original Sega Genesis as they are all pre-loaded onto the system.

The mini console comes with 2 wired controllers making it great when playing co-op games. The system is perfect for those wanting to dive into a large library of influential and retro games.

Honest Review

The Sega Genesis Mini like the other recently released mini consoles is a call back to a different era of gaming. The era of 16-bit gaming was a major steppingstone for today’s games, and to be able to play classics on a modern tv with updated graphics is amazing. With 42 pre-installed and configured games there is no need to swap game cartridges like the original Sega Genesis, but in a nice callback to the classic there is a cartridge slot where the original was and while it doesn’t take original Sega Genesis cartridges it is an incredible way to pay tribute to the original console.

The console comes with two controllers, and they maintain their original design and button scheme, they are however wired making it so you must sit much closer to the screen in order to play (another callback to the 16-bit era of gaming) however with two controllers you can enjoy the co-op games with friends or family.

My only major gripes with the Sega Genesis Mini would be that while 42 games are a lot, there are many games on the original machine I would have loved to see on the mini, and the fact that additional games cannot be added is also a bit of a downside.
